As we wrap up another successful Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week, it’s important to reflect on the key health issues facing Australian women today and how we can continue to raise awareness and take action toward better health and wellbeing. This annual event highlights the importance of women's health, encouraging women to prioritise both their physical and mental health through education, open conversation, and accessible healthcare resources. Read on to hear how I was involved locally...
Pressing Health Issues for Women
According to statistics from the Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week website, women in Australia continue to face several significant health challenges, many of which go under the radar. Here are a few key insights:
- Menopause: Many women find navigating menopause difficult, yet it's often under-addressed in conversations about women's health. 1 in 4 women in Australia report feeling unprepared for the experience of menopause.
- Mental Health: Mental health remains a crucial issue, with 40% of Australian women having experienced some form of anxiety or depression. The impact of stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm is significant, especially in juggling careers, family, and personal well-being.
- Chronic Disease: Heart disease is still the number one killer of women, and conditions like diabetes, osteoporosis, and arthritis affect millions of women across the country. Do you get regular health checkups with your doctor for these things for early awareness and detection? This can help work towards prevention or early intervention and treatment.
Energize Health Club: Celebrating Women’s Health
To celebrate Women’s Health Week and support local women on their health journeys, I partnered with Energize Health Club in Belrose on 2nd-6th September, where we gave away 50 gift bags to gym members. These bags were filled with wellness products and information, including two of my gift certificates for acupuncture and self-care treatments.
The gift certificates were a chance to experience acupuncture's benefits, including Sports Injury Management, Cosmetic Acupuncture, and Stress Relief. These treatments offer a holistic approach to women's health, helping with everything from managing injuries and improving skin health to promoting relaxation and mental well-being.
Looking Ahead
As we look beyond Women's Health Week, it’s essential to CONTINUE these conversations and ensure women have access to the support and healthcare they need. Whether it’s through regular check-ups, mental health care, or complementary therapies like acupuncture, taking proactive steps towards wellness is crucial.
If you missed the celebration, don’t worry! You can still learn more about women’s health issues and consider how acupuncture can support your journey to better well-being. Let’s keep the momentum going and make women’s health a priority every day.
